Why it's exciting

Most Pikachu toys are either a plush that sits still or a figure on a shelf. The Puppetronic sits between the two: it looks like Pikachu from the games and shows, but it reacts when you touch it, blinks, moves its mouth and makes Pikachu's sounds in more than 100 combinations. It is made by the RealFX team behind other lifelike animatronic puppets, and it arrives in Pokémon's 30th anniversary year, which helps explain why early pre-orders sold out. The age grade is 8 and up, so it suits older kids and adult fans more than toddlers.
